Travel To Oz march/april 09
Hi all
Travelling to Sydney march 09. Planning on staying there for 4 days and fly to Melbourne for 4 days and fly back to Sydney and pick up campervan and travel up coast to Cairns and fly back to Sydney to depart home. This trip lasting just over 4 weeks.
Does anyone have suggestions on wats best to include in a trip this length. Pretty varied interests want to see as much scenery. wildlife and history as possible but also experience the beaches and nightlife too.
thanks for your help

This is a big ask. Suggest you buy a guide book and read read read. Scan these pages also. North Queensland may be very wet. Be prepared to change your plans in case of floods or cyclones.
The Blue Mountains, Washpool, Girraween, Bunya Mountains,Great Sandy, Eungella, Wooroonooran and Daintree National Parks along with the Atherton Tablelands would be a good set of places to start your consideration of natural features and wildlife.

It really would be much better for you (it's your trip after all) if you did a bit more research of your own. Good to know you at least have a good amount of time to get from SYD up to FNQ. That means you could stop at most of the alleged "must sees" and take some side trips too.
If I were you I'd be off to the library to get hold of a "Lonely Planet" or "Rough Guide". Maybe think of not going straight up the coast.

These are some of the places we most enjoy when travelling through the east coast area of Australia, in no particular order.
The beach resorts - Bryon Bay, Port Macquarie, Nambucca Heads, Yeppoon, Noosa Heads, Gold Coast etc
Stay at Hervey Bay to visit Fraser Island. From Mackay, take a trip inland to Eungella National Park or stay at Cape Hillsborough National Park (just north of Mackay) -good camping ground right on beach.
From Townsville, you can take a boat to Magnetic Island. Stop in Cardwell and have a boat trip to Hinchinbrook Island. Mission Beach is one of the nicest villages along the coast - beautiful beach. Visit Paronella Park just inland from Mission Beach.
Take the inland road from Innisfail to the Atherton Tablelands then loop back into Cairns through Kuranda.
There is so much to do and see along that route - I'm sure whichever way you go, you will enjoy your holiday.
