Travel to Cairns from Sydney

We will be in Sydney March 30 - April 8. What is the most economical way to fly round trip from Sydney to Noosa and/or Cairns for a 2 or 3 day visit? Should we purchase our tickets in the US or wait until we arrive? From the internet travel agencies we are getting quotes $306 per person and more.

David,
you can check out the cost if you purchase here in Australia by doing some research on the airlines websites. The main players are Qantas & Ansett, with recently joined (and often cheaper) Virgin Blue and Impulse Air. Generally, the cheapest flights are if you purchase 21 days in advance.

I think the nearest airport to Noosa is Maroochydore.
Have a great trip. Kay

What I did was to book my trip as a round trip from my originating point to Cairns with a 4-day stop over in Sydney. (I don't know if there is a limit to the number of days in the stop over or not) The price was the same as the round trip ticket to Sydney so we basically got the trip to Cairns free.
Good luck

If you have United frequent flier miles, you can use them for a RT ticket on Ansett, assuming space is available.

find a travel agent in Australia via the internet and ask them about fares. I found a much lower fare that way than I could find booking here. I sent my credit card number to them and picked up my tickets there. Virgin blue and impulse have low fares often check out their websites.
