Tolls Between Sydney and Katoomba, Including Harbor Bridge?

We will be driving between downtown Sydney and Katoomba next month and I see that some of the roads we might use are toll roads. A Google search revealed something called a Roam e-TAG for short-term visitors. How does this work? Also, Google Maps recommends leaving and entering Sydney via the Harbor Bridge - will this work for the bridge toll?

Here's the info you need:

Yes - all tolls are covered by the pass/ tag.

If you're coming from the city (CBD), you won't meet any tolls.

There's no need to cross the Harbour Bridge. Head down George Street until it become Broadway, Parramatta Road, M4, Great Western Highway and eventually you hit Katoomba. No tolls.

If you're coming from the northside, yes - tolls on Harbour Bridge, or you can go around.

Margo - I see the M4 route. I was under the impression that it wasn't toll-free, but I see now that it is. We are actually going to Featherdale Wildlife Park first and will be traveling mid-morning on a Tuesday. If there are no traffic issues with getting to M4, I will do that.

We will be returning to downtown Sydney in the early afternoon - sounds like we shouldn't have to deal with too much traffic then either.

Let me know your thoughts.

Sounds fine.

If you go to Featherdale first (opening hours? 10am?) You'll miss the most irritating part of the trip up the mountains - the morning school zones. They exist in the afternoon, too.

Depending on where you're heading, and the time you have, a different, slightly longer, trip back to Sydney is via the Bells Line of Road, more winding, more bush, less traffic, fewer school zones. It starts from Mount Victoria, over the mountains past Katoomba. It's one of my favourite trips.

The restaurant at Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens now has good food.
