To Layover or Not to Layover
My husband and I are flying to Australia and we have an option of taking a 12 hour layover. I know we will be tired, so with that aside, would we even be able to get out of the airport, see something (anything at all) and back in in that amount of time? I don't know where the airport will place us, and if there is anything to see close by. Also, if we do go out, how is getting back in? Do we have to go through customs, do we need a visa? We will purchase our tickets within the week, so thought I would try here for advice, since I haven't been able to get great advice before. Thanks to any who have info!

So sorry, that would be a 12 hour layover in Fiji on our way to Australia. My typing got ahead of my brain. Thanks again.

I've never stopped in Fiji so I can't comment directly on that. However, I have flown to Australia several times. On one trip, we decided to do an overnight in LA as we were coming from the East Coast. It was not particularly relaxing and really didn't help us with jetlag, etc. From then on, we've just bitten the bullet and done the trip all at once.
I can't see how a stop in Fiji for 12 hours would do anything but prolong an already long trip. |
Nadi airport is small & it wouldn't take you long to clear customs. Ditto re-entry. You'd be able to see a bit of the island in 12 hours. You could probably arrange with one of the resorts to have day use if you wanted. I guess your decision would depend on your ETA at Nadi.
Personally, I'm not a fan of disrupted flights - I just like to get off at one end & off at the other. Being an Australian, I'm used to long hauls, though (LOL). |
Errr .... that would be "get ON at one end & off at the other" .... altogether too much "getting off" on my other post !
