Kathy, your waitress must have thought that Christmas had come early.

When you think about it, the idea that tips are expected in top-end places but not further down the food chain (so to speak) doesn't really add up, does it? Should we conclude that these august establishments pay their staff less than the pizza joint around the corner? Not content with their often extortionate prices, they want to milk their patrons just a little more because they're shorting their own people? Interesting!

crazymina:
I think you just have to go to the customer service desk and you have to pay cash. It's been a year or so, so it's probably worth calling ahead, tho.

Richard,

ok, you can't take Jersey tomatoes (the BEST) or a hoagie or a cheesesteak, but come ON, man....salt water taffy from the Shore??? Oh yeah, a winner to be sure!

A chance to meet a hot chick and I still can't make it to L.A! My loss, crazymina's gain.

Neil, you are absolutely right-- why should wait staff in "leser establishments" be more poorly tipped -- or not at all? I just try to follow the conventions of the country-- which my daugther-in-law advises me of-- I wish we all could dispose of the "tipping' thing. I would defintely be happier to pay a (maybe higher) fixed price.
