Tipping
I know that tipping is not customary in Fiji and Australia, but does this apply when you are in restaurants? (Do you usually tip your server and how much?)

Dustin,

Tips are not "required" in resturants in Austalia. Coming from the States, I did tip when service was exceptional (about 10%). Frankly that's the way it should be throughout the world.

Dick

Dustin,
In Fiji you do not tip , if you are staying in a hotel/resort what they will suggest is a contribution to the Staff Xmas fund when you checkout. In Australia is would be very rare not to tip at the end of a meal - what is discretionary is the size of the tip. If the service is poor do not tip, if it is good then a 5 to 10% would be fairly usual, if it is exceptional then 10-12%, any higher is pretty much unheard of,
Rgds
Michael

i agree with Michael. There are three reasons that tipping is not so prevelant in Australia...(1)The service people do not depend on tips to make minimum wage and (2) tips here are often distributed proportionately between staff regardless of who provided the service and (3) you will often be served by more than one person during your meal
David

As a Australian resident eating in lower to medium scale restaurants I usually tip $2 to $5 - very occasionally $10 if service was excellent.
