thinking of travelling with 3 months old baby in november 2012
 

I am thinking of travelling with my newborn baby in november, either to melbourne or sydney, before I go back to work.

Anyone has experience before, bringing a baby overseas? What baby needs do I need to watch out for? Do I need to bring along a baby stroller or a baby carrier will suffice?

What activities should I be looking for, with a baby in tow?

I took my baby to Australia when he was 6 months old and it was not a problem at all. It should be even easier for you because your child will be smaller and easier to carry and he/she won't be on solid food yet, so you don't have to deal with that.

I think a baby carrier will be a much better choice as it will be easier to deal with than a stroller. (We used both and the baby carrier was the better choice.)

You should be able to do about anything with a baby in Sydney (except climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge). We went sightseeing (zoo, aquarium, parks, museums, etc.) and we even took a day trip on the train to the Blue Mountains. We were able to dine out since the baby slept while we ate. (A portable carrier is great for this.)

Finally, I'm sure you know to have your baby up-to-date on his/her immunizations before you travel anywhere.

Would you recommend melbourne or sydney? I love wildlife, animals in general. Would it not be advisable to visit these places, such as farmstay etc as the baby's immunity is still quite low.

Ya i think a stroller would be quite bulky to bring about. I should be bringing a baby carrier & perhaps a moses basket.

I think your choice of Sydney or Melbourne would depend on your interests. You aren't going to find wildlife "in the wild" in either of those cities, but they each have a zoo and an aquarium.

You should ask your pediatrician about doing a farmstay with a 3-month old. However, I would not be surprised if he/she nixes that idea.

I have been to Sydney a half dozen times more or less but I am no expert. As Longhorn55 says they have an a zoo, the Taronga Zoo, which is beautifully situated on a hillside above Sydney Harbor. Well worth a visit, if you are in town and enjoy animals.

The Sydney Aquarium has got to be one of the world's best.

You can also see wild ibises near the waterfront and in the city parks, as easily as you can see pigeons in US cities. You might also see wild cockatoos in Sydney's Botanical Garden.
It will still be whale watching season in November.

Sydney is one of the world's most beautiful cities. I am not as familiar with Melbourne, but it is also fun and interesting. Neither of these would be my first choices for seeing animals in the wild, but there would be loads of other things to see in do in either of these cities.

I would also add Sydney Wildlife World if you want to see some Australian animals, and don't have time to go to Taronga Zoo. It is also next door to the Sydney Aquarium at Darling Harbour.

If I had to choose one I would choose Sydney. It's a beautiful city, with lovely beaches, great walks and lots to do.
Babies are easy to travel with, especially if they're happy in a baby carrier. Have a great trip.
