Territory tourism slogan

I just heard on ABC Newsradio that during an election candidates' debate in Darwin the Australian Democrats guy came up with a slogan to promote tourism in the Northern Territory's "Top End" during the justifiably unpopular wet season. His inspired choice is "THE TOP END: BIG WET DREAM". Hats off to a new marketing talent.

For overseas readers, the Australian Democrats are a minor centrist party whose "third party" place is being threatened by the Greens. They have a few Senate seats but little chance of winning seats in the more important House of Reps.

Bahahaha! That is quite funny.

My boyfriend jokes about Adelaide's slogan all the time (although I have never seen it on commercials there or anything.) "Adelaide...it's OK!"

Sounds so mediocre. My friend from Sydney (coming to visit me in a couple of days...yay!) always gives my bf a good ribbing about Adelaide. But then, I think he gives everyone a ribbing if they live anywhere besides Sydney. I gotta give it to him though...Sydney is a lovely place.

One day, I will go experience the "big wet dream." :)

Adelaide was a planned city from the outset, laid out on a grid pattern. When I lived there, unkind visiting Sydneysiders would remark that the city was "well laid out ... because it's been dead so long". In retaliation the locals founded their Arts Festival and started promoting Adelaide as a buzzy place, at least every two years. It beats Brigadoon, which came to life every 100 years, but a slogan like "Adelaide - it's OK" suggests that their hearts are not really in it.

Is it REALLY their slogan? I always thought he was pulling my leg a bit.

But Adelaide really is OK. If I were to pick a city in Oz that closely feels like where I live now (Yes, I live in Los Angeles...but in a beach area that has a hometown feel to it), it would be Adelaide. Climate is somewhat similar (more hot and dry than humid), and all those lovely wineries in the area are a big bonus.

crazymina, I don't know if it's their slogan or not - I was just following your lead. Their numberplate slogan is "The Festival State". Maybe we'll start seeing "South Australia - the Sort-of-OK State"?

From another country:

Pity the poor folks in New Hampshire:

"Live Free or Die"

Considering the state of affairs over here the suicide rate must be going through the roof there.
