Te Anau restaurants?
Can anyone recommend a few good places for lunch or dinner in/near Te Anau? All kinds of food, all price ranges, casual atmosphere...someplace with a view would be nice.

Lisa, Te Anau is such a small town, with less than 20 restaurants, you will actually be able to wander around them all within an hour and make your own mind up depending on which menu/decor takes your fancy.
A good cheap Italian one in the main street is La Toscana.
Unfortunately there is probably only one with a view and that is at the Centra Hotel on the lakefront.

I would recommend La Toscana. Great food, reasonably priced. I agree with Terry...it would take an hour tops to look around yourself.

David

Thanks Terry & David. I appreciate the advice. Since we'll be in Te Anau for three nights we'll probably eat at La Toscana one night, at the hotel one night (we're staying at the Centra which I guess is now a Holiday Inn) and wing it one night.

Of course, you might have returned from your trip by now... When my husband and I went there 3 years ago,we had dinner at a nice Chinese restaurant by the lake - cannnot remember the name but they had fortune cookies and good family service!! And our drive to Milford Sound was just great!

Lisa or anyone....Can you share your dining discoveries in Te Anau as well as lodgings in town?

Thanks

We liked Keplers Restaurant, which specializes in NZ cuising, like seafood, lamb, and venison. A bit pricey, but good and interesting food.

The Chinese restaurant is called Ming Garden. We have eaten there twice, and found it to be an above-average Hong Kong-style restaurant. Many of the tours use Ming Garden, because it is fairly large and better-appointed than most Te Anau places.

Here's another vote for La Toscana.
