Te Anau

Is Te Anau worth a night stopover?

Yes. It is a small town next to a beautiful lake. And, good for getting to Miford for the day (early sailing if you can).

We drove from QT, did the Doubtful sound overnight, then the glowworm caves in the afternoon, then left. I did not think there enough to do in TA to stay overnight.

What are you planning to do in that area? ((R))

We spent three nights in Te Anau and found plenty to do - there are lots of outdoor activities such as tramping, kayaking, lake cruises, etc.

All depends on your interests and time constraints.

I definitely think so. We spent 2 nights and could have spent more. The Glow Worm Caves were even better than expected, and the drive to Milford is much easier from Te Anau than anywhere else! Plus the lake is gorgeous. The town is not that small and had we enjoyed the restaurants. We didn't get a chance to do any of the local hikes and hope to return in the future!
