Tasmanian Travels
My old school buddy and i are doing a trip down the west coast of Tasmania from Burnie down to Strahan and then across the middle to Hobart and then up the east coast back to Devenport. Need accommodation along the way [ two singles]. He's not flush with money although I am ok.So we are looking for cheap but interesting places to stay. Suggestions please.

There are many places in Tasmania where you can get accommodation for you. like,
Salamanca Wharf Hotel, The Henry Jones Art Hotel,l Mantra Collins and Charles Hotel etc. Here you can get great quality accommodation for you. |
Thank you Gemma. Will look these up. any other suggestions out there?

We just stayed in Hobart at Salamanca Inn and really liked it. Much less expensive than Salanca Wharf where we stayed the day before and still a great location. Close to pubs and restaurants and waterfront. Free laundry and kitchen area ( no oven) is

Can't really beat Wrest Point in Sandy Bay. We found a decent selection of room types to suit our budget and from memory had free parking which helped given all other options either had no parking or offered it at a cost. Distance from the CBD is minutes and there was plenty of food options on offer. The more cost effective rooms were away from the tower - but again we only wanted simple, clean and convenience. Good luck with the trip! You'll love the place.

Thanks everyone was wondering now about places to stay up the east coast going back to Launceston and Devenport.

Rosebery made a neat stopover place for us, doing your trip, in reverse. Can't remember which pub we stayed at, but a quick search reveals lots of options well below $100

We've just spent two nights in a self contained cabin at Bicheno East tourist park. It's quite dated, (a trip back to the seventies in terms of decor) but with comfortable beds and a flat screen TV. There is easy access (about 40 minutes drive) to Freycinet NP and some great views from Bicheno itself.
We're currently in St Helens, staying at the Bayside hotel motel for $80 per night, here the decor is more like the fifties, but again a comfortable bed and all amenities we require, fridge, tv, walk to shops etc. I'll report on Launceston and Devonport when we get there in a few days. |
For Hobart consider the Customs House Hotel. It's right on the waterfront, with views. The attached pub has an award winning restaurant & the included breakfast is served in that restaurant.
