Tasmania or Perth or both
We are ending a tour in Adelaide and thinking of spending an additional week. Tasmania is one possibility and the other suggestion is Perth. This is our second trip to Australia so we have seen several of the major cities. Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you here now?

I have never been to Perth but spent two weeks this spring in Tasmania and loved it! The scenery, people, animals and food were wonderful.

We will touring in March 2015. Starting in Sydney, ending in Adelaide. Thinking of spending two days in Adelaide then on to somewhere else.

In a week you could do a loop down to the Margaret River & beyond. Lots to see & do in WA.
Have a look at Melnq8's trip reports for inspiration & seriously good examples of what's on offer that can be done in a shortish trip. Or did you mean to make Perth your base & do day trips? Tasmania is, of course, much more compact - but has a great variety of interesting places & things of interest, from the eclectic art at MONA, to the heritage built & natural sites. The crux is though, what interests you. Do you want to go bush walking, looking around historic old towns, exploring & enjoying the fantastic foods grown & produced there. Do you want to be primarily in town or out in the countryside? In short, what specifically is it about our WA capital city & southern island State that attracts you? March is a good time to be in either - great early Autumn weather. It will be warmer in WA than Tas. |
March can still be bloody hot here in Perth - this past March was a bear with entirely too many 36-40 degree days.
It will be cooler in the SW of WA, but in my experience, not by a huge margin. There's plenty to do in both states TexasTwo, just sort of depends on what you're interested in as mentioned by Bokhara. You can cover more ground in TAS as it's much smaller. You'll only see a very small fraction of WA in a week, but there's plenty to do within a three hour radius of Perth. |
While you're in Adelaide, is Kangaroo Island on the agenda ? Fabulous scenery and wildlife, great fishing if that interests you.
If you can give an idea of what you're looking for in terms of experiences, you'll get some great ideas here. |
Thank you for the ideas! We have decided to go to Tasmania. We are thinking about staying a couple of days in either Adelaide or Melbourne. The time would be March 18 19 in Adelaide or go to Tasmania then back to Melbourne for a few days. Will the World Cup 2015 in Adelaide be a concern we should consider? We just want to see the city, maybe a few museums, or other historical things.

Good choice, Tasmania will be much better weather wise at that time and compact...Melbourne is fabulous, do a city laneway walking tour...
