Sydney with 4 kids!

Without renting a car, what would be the most ideal AREA to stay in Sydney? Please be specific if you can, maybe even by street names. I have pulled up Sydney CBD on Wotif.com and they all claim they are close to attractions. 1. We want to see as much as possible by foot. 2. Most importantly, my children are young and we would rather not have to carry them because they are "too tired to walk anymore!" :) We also want to make sure we avoid any areas that are not kid friendly. Thanks for your feedback!

Which attractions do you want to see? That will help us give you advice about where to stay.

Alternatively, there is good public transport in the inner city so it may be better to be close to a transport hub rather than to any specific site you may want to visit. The zoo, for example, is an easy ferry ride but you would need to be close to the ferries and more specifically Circular Quay. The aquarium is at Darling Harbour--there is accommodation there and its close to lots of public transport.

You could stay at Accor Alley in Darling Harbour - nicknamed that it has adjoining Accor Hotels: Novotel, Ibis and Grand Mercure apartments. The monorail stops there so it is easy to get in and out of the city. Buy a pass.

You can walk to the Powerhouse Museum, Chinatown, Sydney Aquarium, Wildlife Centre and Imax plus there is also a ferry service.

Darling Harbor: close to kid's activities, the park and within easy walking to distance to everything - if they're up to it, you can even walk to the Domain from there, which we did with a 6-year-old several times. Check out the Waldorf Apt. Hotel on Liverpool Street (search this site for reviews) - not grand, but solid, large apt.s, and great location.

I would stay in the Rocks or close to Circular Quay, for the ferries, Botanic Gardens etc + trains.

My Aunt and Uncle own an apartment in the Waldolf on Liverpool. It is very convenient but it is on a very busy and noisy street. It also doesn't have a pool or a play area, which why suggested the hotels at Darling Harbour.
