Sydney Restaurants, Places, Events in April?

Hi Folks,

I've been to your amazing city about a dozen times, mostly on business, and therefore mostly in haste. My two companions and I will be visiting from the 11th to the 16th of April. Since it is both their first time to visit Sydney, I am the designated travel guide by default. If you're a Sydney local or insider, or maybe even a savvy traveller, we would appreciate any and all suggestions for our brief vacation. I've been reading the posts on this site for the past couple of days, and have found much valuable insight. Thanks in advance for your input!

Hi, sinoevil!

Well, here's three April attractions for starters: the Royal Easter Show, at Homebush Bay (where the Olympic Games were held) is on until April 15. It's worth a full day of your week -- stay for the fireworks which are on at about 8:30 every night.

Secondly, Mount Wilson, in the Blue Mountains near Mount Victoria, is at its absolute best in mid-April. The autumn colours will put you in mind of Vermont or Maine. You will need to hire a car, but you can do that from Redicar, at RediCar at 42 Great Western Hwy Springwood -- which you reach from Sydney by train (a little more than an hour's journey), alighting at Valley heights Station. The office is right outside the station, and there isn't much else there at all, so you can't miss it. The just head for Katoomba, then on to Mount Victoria, where you turn right towards Bell.

Sydney's version of Coney Island, called Luna Park, has just reopened after several years of closure, and it might make another worthwhile visit, especially after dark. It's a quick ferry ride from Circular Quay (five minutes).
April is a great time of year in Sydney -- I think it's probably the best month of all to visit. Have a wonderful time!

Hello - your searches will have turned up all the best tips for the city - the 'must does'; the good restaurants, etc. But re events in April - two short-lived things happening now (as in every year) are the Royal Easter Show out at Homebush (the Olympic site) - its origins are as an agricultural show but I believe it's more than that now. It's certainly a big event on the calendar. I'm going for the first time tomorrow!! And, on a different note - the Art Gallery of NSW is always worth a visit (it would be on my personal list of must sees), but right now there is another Sydney institution on there - The Archibald Prize exhibition. It's a prize awarded for portraiture.

Both rather esoteric for a visitor - but, hey, you did ask!!

Have lots of fun.

Go the the Show! Go to the races at Randwick (horse racing)

MUST DO IN SYDNEY:

FISHMARKET- I love this place. It's basically where the locals go to get the freshest seafood. Also, if you love oysters (freshly shucked), raw tuna, salmon (Yum!!) this is the place to be.

You basically can purchase all of the above and eat it there. They supply the wasabi and soya sauce too!
