Sydney places to stay
 

Hey guys,

I was wondering what areas people recommend staying in during our visit to Sydney. My friends and I would rather stay closer to nightlife (bars, restaurants, clubs) and travel/take the train or ferry during the day to visit tourist attractions. We're in our 20's but its a bunch of girls so we prefer to travel less at night. We were considering the Holiday Inn in Potts Point but I'm not too sure if this is a good location?

Also, are Ubers used often or cabs?

We prefer the Darling Harbour area for accommodation. Easy walk into the city or take the ferry to Circular Quay. Our preference is the Novotel - close to restaurants but not too close, so quiet at night.

We have stayed at Holiday Inn at Darling Harbour. If you join their hotel club, you get free internet.

Uber is used just as much as cabs.

Darling Harbour is not my favourite place to be honest. If you do choose to stay here try to get a hotel on the city side (King Street Wharf side as there are lots of good small bars in the back streets between here and George Street.
Ubers are great and there is also a new option GoCatch that seems slightly cheaper.

Another area to consider is Surry Hills. We have stayed in the Adina Apartments here on a staycation and it was great - lots of great food and bars too.

You may want to consider Bondi Beach/Bondi Junction. You have a different range of accommodation and you are close/accessible to the CBD. Not to mention Bondi is a great area to be based and explore.

Are you on a budget? Some hotels in The Rocks area, just around the corner from Circular Quay and across from the Opera House, are not all that expensive. Great location - The Rocks rocks with nightlife, all ferries come to Circular Quay, trains and buses galore to everywhere, never a dull moment.

And if you stay there, or just visit, walk up to the traffic level of the bridge and climb the pylon - check out www.pylonlookout.com.au (it's not the very expensive and involved bridge climb, that's a different story).
