Sydney Pass

Is it advisable to purchase the Sydney Pass in Canada before we leave for Sydney? It would cost us $90.00 each in Canada. We are 3 adults. Would we qualify for a family pass? Also one of the party is a senior. Someone mentioned that seniors get a travel pass for $1.00 a day. Please advise. Thank you.

I forgot to metion that the 3 adults are my husband, myself and son who is 23 years old.I don't know if this qualifies us for a family pass. Since my husband is a senior would it be better to purchase the pass on a daily basis at the rate of $1.00 a day. Please advise. Thank you.

I can't remember what it costs for a Sydney pass actually but the amount of $90 rings a bell - but that could be 'any' bell for anywhere. When I was last in Sydney and thinking of getting a pass the bus, train and ferry workers went on strike for taking fares and we went everywhere for nothing. Yes if you are a senior or a pensioner then you can get a pass for the day for $1. But I think I worked it out that the full pass would not be worth it as you can get the Sydney Explorer for an entire day for $15. The fare to Manly is not that expensive anyway and when I last went up to Katoomba ( in the Blue Mountains and a place you would probably go) it was $14 return by train.
So all in all I would not buy your pass at $90 Canadian before coming because one of you will get discounted fares anyway and I think you would have to be getting on and off trains and buses a lot to make it worth it. Make sure you have a senior card or something as they will get a lot of discounts if you ask.

Just thought that I would do a search myself and have come up with this

http://www.atn.com.au/nsw/syd/trans-c.htm

This will tell you about most of the passes anyway. I really would have thought that the Red Explorer bus and the Bondi Explorer would be your main one and that would do 2 days anyway. Make sure you go on the Bondi bus getting off at Watsons Bay for lunch at Doyles restaurant - it has been a Sydney institution since forever. As a child I used to be taken there for a Sunday lunch and we would stay until dark. Walk along the cliff side and get the best view in Sydney. You have to love it!!
Enjoy you visit here

Thank you folks for your advice which has been a tremendous help. I have decided not to purchase the Sydney Pass before we leave but will take a look at the web sites you have so kindly provided.
