By May it's usually getting colder, but it is still Autumn/Fall. April is very erratic, as no doubt you will have seen if you have been following the Sydney temperatures recently.
In terms of packing you definately won't need an overcoat, or thick jumpers, or thick wooly skirts etc. and you probably won't need shorts or lots of short-sleeved T-shirts or singlets, unless you intend going bush walking/hiking. Maybe pack one or two T-shirts just in case there's another warm patch.
On cold days (if we get any) the most you would need is two layers i.e. a thin to medium weight jumper/sweater and a jacket. It's not that cold at the moment: it's thin jumper weather, if that, and it's raining.
