sydney hotel intercontinental not worth it!

Hi-

Often people come to this forum looking for hotel advice- and since I've just returned from my 3rd Sydney trip I just wanted to add one bit of advice- the Sydney Intercontinental Hotel, while there is nothing wrong with it, does not charge a fair price for the size of the room and amenities. Other hotels offer much more fore the price and they don't charge extra fees for use of the gym, breakfast, etc. Though well-located, the Sir Stamford next door offers a larger room for a similar price.

Also just returned from the Inter-Continental and the view of the Opera House and Bridge (25th floor) was simply spectacular. While we were there we also saw fireworks from our window being shot off from the water...what a sight! The view is worth the price especially for 1st time visitors as we were.

We stayed at the Inter-Continental in August.I thought it was a great hotel in a good location. The Italian Pasta restaurant was yummy. We got a great deal from there website & I would recommend it to anyone.

Have also stayed at the the Intercontinental and enjoyed the stay and also the great view of the Opera House. It couldn't be beat. Really liked the center Atrium and found the service and food to be good. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

We had a delightful stay at the InterContinental in April. We spent our first six nights in Australia there and were so pleased that we used it later in our trip when we were just passing through Sidney.
The architects preserved the old Treasury building at the lower levels creating beautiful public spaces. The Intercontinental was just up hill from all the rail bus and ferry connections at Circular Quay. It's across from the Sidney Museum and a block from the Royal Gardens.
As to price we had a room with a view of the Harbour and Bridge for about $175 including the elegant breakfast buffet by booking on the internet. When we passed through we spent less by taking rooms with views of the Royal Gardens. These prices were very competitive with comparable hotels in the Circular Quay area.

Hi
I posted the original message- all I'm saying is for that money- you can stay at the Quay West and get 2 rooms, laundry and a much much nicer fitness center. Or for less you can get everything historic and a great location right next door at Sir Stamford. The people who posted about their Opera House views, I would like to know what you paid each night and let the readers decide.

As I said above, $175 US including excellent breakfast buffet for a view of the bridge and the harbour. A little less than $150 for the view of the Royal Gardens. I don't know anything about the laundry or the fitness center as we didn't use either of them during our stay in Sidney. These prices were very attractive compared to other upscale hotels in the area when I priced them out in April.
