sydney hostel for 60 year olds!!!

Please recommend hotel or hostel for myself and husband plus single female friend for about 5 days-she wants something cheap as it can be expensive if paying for a room alone. We like cheap but quiet, clean and interesting arty if possible. Prefer hostel or apartment to souless hotel. Recommendations on here are not very recent. Thanks!

Have a look at this one. Fabulous location and very cheap for Sydney!

Have you stayed there yourself, Downunder?

Friends stayed at the McLaren in North Sydney last weekend and were very impressed. It's not a hostel, but may suit you.

If you have a look on www.wotif.com.au, for areas like inner west, east Sydney; you may find something in your price range.

What is your price limit?
The Oaks Goldsborough Apartments at Darling Harbour have 1 bedroom apartments with sofa bed in the living room and a small kitchen or 2 bedroom apartments. It is a big block but nice rooms in a good area.

Try yha.com.au
There are about 10 yha hostels in Sydney, 4 of which are at beach side locations.
At 4* hostels you can get ensuite accomodation but they can get a bit noisy.
Sydney Central hostel and Railway Square hostel are very good.
And if you want to go further afield, Newcastle yha has a ballroom complete with a crystal chandelier. Also the Blue Mountains hostel at Katoomba is a great place to stay for Christmas in July.

Thanks to all-I like the look of Glenferrie esp as my friend used to live in that street 30 years ago!! It looks nice but has mixed reviews on Tripadvisor. That would be $89 for single and $109 double room. That is as much as we would like to pay really. Any others please-I am put off hostels for the noise factor tho I enjoy meeting other travellers as opposed to hotels.

The Glenferrie is somewhere I spotted a long time ago when I was living just down the road ten years ago. That's why I asked Downunder if he/she had stayed there. He/she has not replied. But if you are going to, bevzy, good for you. And please tell us how it was.

I suspect it is a good choice.

Cheers.

Bokhara2's tip for the McLaren in North Sydney is a spot on. It's a lovely hotel and in a quiet location, just off the highway with good access to the city.

Just checked out Glenferrie Lodge - I want to stay there too!
