Sydney Central Station

Are baggage porters available to assist at Central Station?

Alan Sep 2nd, 2004 08:52 PM

Hi, Pottle!

Since I go there every week -- including today! -- I am ashamed to say that I don't, right off, know the answer to that question! It's just never occurred to me! I THINK the answer might be, yes, there is help available, but you'll have to go and seek it out. Certainly there is no army of RedCaps hanging around waiting to help as there is at some major US Rail Stations. But, most of the time in Australia, if you say that you need help, someone will work out a way to get what you need. Now, I will be interested to read any follow-up comments from people who have more exact information than that!

Hi Alan, Thanks for your speedy and always helpful response! For now, you're the expert, and it sounds like good advice.

lol

You will get to know Aussie quick.

Ok if we have baggage porters we would never call them that.

Say, "Hey mate", can you give me a hand!

And then people may help you but we don't employ slaves as a rule.

ok . never ever expect people to pick up anything for you here. If it is something a person can lift, and you are a person, then lift it yourself!

Jane_47, go take a cold shower!

We stopped using slaves about 140 years ago.......just slightly ahead of my time. But we do sometimes ask for assistance, for proper compensation, from those honerably employed to provide such help.

But, "Hey Mate" thanks for helping me with my jargon.

Hi Paul_S

Thanks once more for all your help!

The site has a wealth of useful information. Though not directed specifically to my question, it does invite one to ask for staff assistance. I'll become an instant authority on the subject when I arrive Thursday A.M.

Want you to know one of your earlier response helped me plan a visit to Port Stephens area.

Many, many thanks!

You are more than welcome, hope you have a great time in Port Stephens it really is a beautiful location and one the locals are trying very hard to keep as pristine as they can. They have just one their fight against the Pearling Industry who wanted to carve up the waterways into pearl farms. This would have been a disaster for the environment of the area.

Cheers
