Glad you enjoyed WA. Where pray tell is this windmill, and how have I missed it?
<Climbing all three Fire Watch Tree Towers near Pemberton.> Did you get sewing machine legs? I certainly did, but I survived all three too. Once was enough though. Where can I find that soda bread? |
Great trip report.
I've just returned from UK where everything that could go wrong did go wrong, and it rained every day but one! My trip report would be a list of miseries (almost)! Had a fine time but it certainly could have been better! Now I'm envious! |

"Where pray tell is this windmill, and how have I missed it?" The Perth windmill is in South Perth near the freeway and not far from a ferry terminus. You can just see it through the trees from the Swan Bells park. It is called The Old Mill on Mill Point Road South Perth 9474 0811. We found it by being in the wrong lanenat the right time. The second windmill is on an island at the mouth of the Murray river near Mandurah. It doesn't have any sails and is only accessible by boat. We were going to hire one but my wife was bit ill. So we drove out to look at it and luckily the caretaker was there and he has a small ferry he uses where he pulls himself over on a chain. He was very kind and took us over and back.It is not very far (20m) and some people swim there and back. <Climbing all three Fire Watch Tree Towers near Pemberton.> "Did you get sewing machine legs? I certainly did, but I survived all three too. Once was enough though." Surprisingly I had no ill effects from the climb at all. I thought that I would especially as I did all three before lunch. Only a very slight ache in the hips the next day, but not much more than driving a strange car had already caused. Where can I find that soda bread? The bakery is at Silver Sands shopping centre in Mandurah. The batch bread was great too. I loved both, but my wife thought the soda bread was just a poor scone. No accounting for taste. Wave rock was definitely worth the drive! The rest of Hyden Rock, The Humps; King Rock and the Breakaway were fantastic. We could easily have spent a week out there. We missed the National Parks there. We knew it would be just a taste of the area. Canal Rocks near Margaret River were also a great highlight for me. I spent hours wandering around. Thanks for your interest and help with the planning. We didn't go to Rottnest Island. Margo We spent three weeks in England, Wales and Scotland where we never saw the sun. My sisters who live in London and Colchester said they had a lovely sunny Autumn. The cloud just followed us! I spoke to a young boy in Wales and asked him if it ever stopped raining. He said "I don't know, I'm only 12." Try going on a ten day trek in the Himalayas and only seeing mountains on two days! And getting snowed on for two. I know how you feel. All the best. |
