SW Australia - Black Flies in November?

We visited the Margaret River area a few years ago in January and were eaten alive by the black flies along the coastal areas. Does this same problem-condition exist in early November?

Probably would not stop us but would be good to know.

Yes, but I'm not aware of them eating people. I've never been bitten by an Aussie fly. Ants, yes.

Flies are a real PITA here. They're practially the national insect.

They're a year round issue in some places (like NW WA), but generally they're only horrible from Nov-Feb in Perth and the SW of the state.

Margaret River had a particularily bad run of them a few years back. Tourists were horrified.

Heat + Australia = flies.

This photo was taken while hiking near Esperance in November:

Get yourself a fly net.
