SW Australia - Black Flies in November?
We visited the Margaret River area a few years ago in January and were eaten alive by the black flies along the coastal areas. Does this same problem-condition exist in early November?
Probably would not stop us but would be good to know. |
Yes, but I'm not aware of them eating people. I've never been bitten by an Aussie fly. Ants, yes.
Flies are a real PITA here. They're practially the national insect. They're a year round issue in some places (like NW WA), but generally they're only horrible from Nov-Feb in Perth and the SW of the state. Margaret River had a particularily bad run of them a few years back. Tourists were horrified. Heat + Australia = flies. This photo was taken while hiking near Esperance in November: http://www.worldisround.com/articles...5/photo40.html And this one while hiking near Denmark one spring: http://www.worldisround.com/articles...2/photo19.html Get yourself a fly net. |
