Thank YOU! Thanks to both of you for a wonderful trip report; not only did you do a good job with telling the story of the places you visited, but you let the pure joy of it all show. Your report really pushed my timeline to return to New Zealand way up. I cannot wait to see the photographs.

mr & mrs go well done. Looking forward to your photos. We were there the same time I think 2/24 - 3/12 and the weather was unbelievable.

Thanks, phishears. From the dates on your trip report, I think we were just a day ahead of you at the Craypot/Jackson's Bay and at Lake Matheson. The weather was unbelievable!

Photos are slow-going, but we're working on it. Here is the first set of photos from our 2.5 days in and around Queenstown. This includes our afternoon out touring wineries in Central Otago and our day of driving to Glenorchy.

Gorgeous. You sure had some beautiful days. And the reflections on the lake could not be more perfect.

I've enjoyed your report, and your photos are beautiful.

More of the South Island has been on my list for some time, might have to move it up a notch.

Thank you !

yes, lovely pics - they brought back some great memories for me of our trip in 2013 - I can't believe that it was that long ago! We were there in December and had pretty good weather too - just the odd day of rain which can happen any time. It's a stunning part of the world - I'd love to go back.

Thanks, everyone. We are working on more of the photos and will hopefully have the rest up by the end of the week. There's a little issue called "work." And the photo sharing site we use has been operating a little sporadically.

I'd love to go back. Me, too!

We've finally had a chance to take a first pass through all of our photos and post some. This is a work in progress--we will continue to tweak these, add some captions, and eventually turn them into a blog. But for now, here is the link:

http://onelittleworld.zenfolio.com/newzealand

We've created smaller albums for each day (except for the first few days in Queenstown, which are in one album). There are some videos thrown in for good measure.

We did not spend much time on photo editing, and many of these are from our iPhones. I recently downsized from a DSLR to a Sony mirrorless camera, which I like--but even that was sometimes cumbersome to carry or use while hiking with a pack and poles, especially if raining. I took an extra lens but never used it after the first day of hiking (more weight in the pack).

One final point: we came to the realization that photos just don't do any of this justice. We talked about getting a GoPro before the trip and kind of wish we had. Nevertheless, we hope this gives you a little glimpse of what it is like on the Milford Track and other places we visited in our all-too-short trip.

Spectacular! I recognize a few of those shots from my own collection of NZ photos. Those blue skies and blue lakes are just stunning.

Don't think you could pay me to eat a whitebait pizza, but good on you for giving it a try.

Really lovely photos - well done. Ours are not so great but bring back great memories nonetheless.

Ditto on the whitebait pizza BTW - though we loved the whitebait.

Thanks! Re: the whitebait... We met a very nice couple in our Milford Track group, originally from New Zealand but they now live in Perth. He was very insistent that we try whitebait on our trip up the coast. It is not really in season, so this was the only opportunity that we found to try it. It wasn't great...it wasn't awful. It didn't kill us

I was once told by a Kiwi that the usual way of eating whitebait is to put them into a blender...whole...and whiz them into a paste for fritters.

It reminds me too much of the old SNL Bass-o-matic skit with Dan Aykroyd, which to this day still makes me gag when I even think about it. (Yeah, I'm a gagger...just ask my dentist).

Ms_go, thanks for sharing your beautiful photos and text. The Sony mirrorless camera sounds very tempting: lighter, quieter, great image quality.

Your report brought back great memories from our trip in 2002--when the exchange rate was 2.4 New Zealand dollars to the US dollar. Quite the bargain then!
