Strahan, Tasmania, accom advice

Planning a short break in Tas. Where is the best and nicest place to stay in Strahan? Cost not really an object - it's a special 'parents only get away'!

I stayed at the Franklin Manor and was very disappointed. I wished I had booked into the "Cottages of the Colony" which are the little row of cottages right in "town", very nice, cosy and quaint. There is also a very nice B&B which is on the western or northern side of "town" nearer to the caravan park but I cannot remember the name. It is an old linen and lace type of house and would be very comfortable.

The ones that I was thinking about are not the Cottages of the Colony but are listed in the following:

Thanks for that Janese. Can I ask why you were dissapointed with Franklin Manor - was it the accomodation, food, location?? We're not really into old linen & lace - so we might give what I think might be Ormiston House (?) a miss!

Franklin Manor really had no ambience about it. It was newish and just like most other newish places - a bit like staying at a Flag Inn I guess. We stayed in the Stables but that too was too new ( might as well be anywhere in the world type of thing). You could not see the TV from the bedroom and the country style really didn't work well. When I mentioned linen and lace I was really referring to the date of the place and yes I think it is Ormiston House. What those type of places have is style and at least some feeling of ambience together with class. Staying at the Franklin Manor was just like staying at home! I like to have something different if I am paying the price for it.
