Spit to Manly and...???

Hello again to all and Happy New Year!

Having booked our trip to Broken Hill, (thanks to all who helped!) I now have a new question about our stay in Sydney. My husband and I will have one full day to ourselves- a Sunday- the rest of our time we'll be occupied with pre-scheduled company activities.

I'd like to take the Spit to Manly walk in the morning, and I'm hoping to have enough energy for more sightseeing in the afternoon. Having a beautiful sunset/night view of the skyline is high on my priority list- (photography)- should we stay in Manly for the afternoon and catch the ferry back at dusk, or is there a favorite spot that we should travel to for this purpose?

Thanks again to all who have helped with our trip thus far- only 6 more weeks until we leave!

It's a bit hard to say!

Spit to Manly will take a couple of hours.

You could have a look around Manly (presuming that you are fit enough to carry on more) and then catch the dusk ferry - says around 6pm, back to town. That should give you good dusk views, weather permitting. You could go up to the Quarantine Station at Manly (fair old walk - not sure if there is a bus), and then head back to the city.

Or you could spend the afternoon, swimming and relaxing on Manly Beach - or walk up to Le Kiosk or one of the other places for lunch.

Or any of a thousand other things.....

After reading more, I'm starting to think that perhaps we should do the zoo & Bradley's head instead. Or, instead of doing the entire walk, maybe walk around Manly, see Shelly's beach, and then do the above.

Thanks Margo- like you said, it's hard to choose from a thousand things!

Also, any other recommendations in addition to my original posting are welcome.

We just want to have a great time with the scenery and that gorgeous skyline!

Bradley's Head is great at sunset - Johnj took some Fodorites down there previously - & I snuck in when they weren't watching (G'day - whatever happened to Marilyn?!)
Brilliant views back towards the bridge - but - no public tansport - you need a car - or bloody good walking legs.

I really like the Spit to Manly walk, though!

john took us on the whole Spit to Manley walk, but we fueled ourselves with mega icecream cones while he was shuttling the car. We saw lots along the route but did not spot the elusive margoozzieopis until a few days later

cheers

If you want to go from the Quarantine Station / North Head after doing the Manly Spit walk - the 135 bus goes from Manly Wharf but it's pretty infrequent so you're probably better getting a taxi up and walking back down.

Persnally I'd vote for walking round to Shelly Beach and having a swim in Cabbage Tree Bay marine reserve - the water is usually very clear and there are lots of fish around

Where are you staying in Sydney KK?

Will you have been to Broken Hill before the 18th?

Wher are you from?

We'll be staying at the Four Seasons from the 15th-20th, then we fly to Broken Hill for our tour and take the train back on the 23rd. (I've never been on a train before!)

We're from sunny south Florida!

Seems like we have no takers at this point, but if anyone changes their mind, I can be reached at [email protected].

As always, thanks for all of the great advice. We are anticipating a wonderful trip!

I could probably do it - and could drop you off at your hotel on the way back - as I live on the other side of Sydney (I'm a dreaded westie!)

I'll drop you an email (not today, though!)
