South Island of New Zealand end of May?
My husband and I have an opportunity for a last minute 10 day trip anywhere we want to go. We thought we would go to New Zealand's south Island. However, when looking at the weather forecast for the last 1.5 week of May the weather looks terrible. We have never been to NZ, but we thought it would be a terrific destination for us as we really enjoy outdoor activities and living life to fullest on each vacation. Is it worth going? If not, does anyone have any other suggestions?
Thank you all in advance!

Personally, I'd not hesitate to go to NZ at any time of year.
We routinely visit the SI in the off season. There are some real advantages, including fewer people, lower rates, tracks entirely to oneself, etc.
Yes, the weather can be less than perfect, but the weather on the SI is unpredictable year round anyway.
We were once told by a local that May is the SI's most settled month.
Go. The only thing you'll regret is not having more time.
