Sofitel in Sydney - Has Anyone Stayed There?
We are planning to stay there in a couple weeks but are wondering why there seem to be no travel guide books that recommend it.
Should I be concerned? Thank you. |
If it is the Sofitel Wentworth Hotel I think you will find it is better known as just 'The Wentworth' - which is an excellent hotel in the centre of the city and within easy walking distance of all the major sites.

you shouldn't be worried, it's great.
sofitel is the accor group's premium brand hotel. info on sofitel wentworth below http://www.accorhotels.com.au/hotdea...&brand=all Bonjour and Welcome to Sydney's award winning luxury hotel, located in the heart of the shopping and central business district. Sofitel Wentworth Sydney has recently undergone extensive refurbishment, resulting in a new contemporary look, while retaining the old world charm that has made it an architectural icon. The hotel features 436 rooms, Elixr Health Club, Aveda Day Spa, conference facilities for up to 1100 people and is only a few mins walk from Circular Quay and the Sydney Opera House. |
"Old world charm"? "Architectural icon"? Are we talking about the same place? Did they pull down the "old" (1960s) Wentworth and erect something attractive in its place while I wasn't looking? In which case, where did the old-world charm come from?
I've only stayed at the Wentworth once and found my room rather pokey. OK, it was a sales conference, and most of the participants wouldn't have known or cared if they'd been tossed into a linen cupboard by the time bedtime came around, but it might be a good idea to be sure of the room standard you're getting. I'm sure they have much bigger and better, and to be fair there'd be many worse places to stay. |
Could not agree with Neil more - old world charm, architectural icon?? Inside may be OK post refurbishment - the better Sofitels are pretty good, but outside the Wentworth in my view is just a pretty horrible 60/70s building with only excuse for style being that it is arc shaped.
