Snorkeling other than the GBR?

Are there any good snorkeling places in Australia that we should consider other than the GBR (and the Whitsundays)? We are thinking of going to SA and VIC as well as the GBR for snorkeling, but wondering if we could get some in while we are down south. I saw a picture of some snorkelers off Kangaroo Island, but haven't read of any tours or trips.
Thanks,
Sally in Seattle, with lots of questions tonight!

I am going snorkelling later this year to Narooma to frolick with fur seals :) This is not in Victoria but not far, way down south NSW.

However my report may be too late for your consideration. So I leave my mark and maybe someone could also let me know if this spot is good for my flippers.

You can indeed snorkel at various places in SA, NSW, and VIC, but you aren't going to see much in the way of coral and tropical fish. Instead, you can go to see seals in places like the Bellarine Peninsula, which is near Geelong, in Victoria.

Dear Tassietwister and ALF, thanks for responding. We aren't going until 2006 so will be interested in hearing your report, TT. ALF, seeing seals is good, too, I imagine. Does one need heavy wetsuits (we have 3 ml for warm water)?

The water isn't nearly as cold as summertime at the Edmonds Underwater Park, or at dive sites in Deception Pass, if you are familiar with any of those. 3ml will be plenty.
