Small, unique resorts or lodging

We are planning a 10 day trip to Fiji. We want to make sure we spend a lot of time at the beach. We want to stay at a place or 2 where the food, rooms and service is good but not outrageiously priced. A place where the crowds are on the low end, but where we have the opportunity for fun and seakayaking. Good sea food is a necessity. We have not been to there before, so I would appreciate any insight into specific places you would suggest. We are planning our trip in August. Looking for romantic lodging and a good time. Wouldn't mind moving around at least once as we would like to experience the culture. We like smaller, unique places to eat and sleep as long as they meet the criteria I mentioned.<BR>Thanks

We are staying next month at Rainbow Reef Resort, on Vauna Levu. It is remote (not near Savusavu), but close to Taveuni. Only 3 bures. Relatively new (1998). Not overly advertised, on it's own white sand beach. Supposedly excellent dining.

There are lots of suggestions if you do a search on Fiji on this board. But briefly I could suggest Tokoriki, Matamanoa, Namele. There's practically no seakayaking in Fiji as the island resorts are in sheltered lagoons, but all of the resorts do have paddle boards or small kayaks for you to paddle around in. Depending on when in August it could well be school holidays, so you will either need to book very quickly or find a resort where they don't accept kids. This can change & many resorts take kids during the Aust & NZ school hols.

We love Fiji & have been to Namale, Turtle Island & Vatulele. Vatulele is my favorite. I know these three are probably considered outrageously expensive but I felt they were worth it. Check out Luxurylink.com since they have Vatulele on auction sometimes & you can get a great deal. Good luck.
