Small hotel in Sydney
 

We will be in Sydney for four nights prior to flying onto NZ. We like staying in samll hotels or B&Bs. I am trying to decide between the Darlinghurst neigborhood or Paddington. Which of these neighboorhoods would be closer to museums, parks, ferries, cafes and resturants?

Simpsons Hotel Potts Point. www.simpsonshotel.com walking distance or catch the bus to everything.

Darlinghurst is better served by public transport (train at Kings Cross plus buses) and it's an easy walk into the city. Restaurants and shopping are better in Paddington, it's slightly further out but still very close to the city and well served by buses.

Regents Court has a great roof garden if want a boutique hotel (Potts Point/Kings Cross).

Sullivans in Oxford st is on the border of Darlinghurst/Paddington, it's very reasonably priced.

I endorse Simpsons and also look at The Kirketon in Darlinghurst

Another suggestion for you is the lovely old Victorian boutique place in a smart street in Paddigton. It is the Hughenden.. Very close to frequent buses. See www.hughendenhotel.com.au or telephone on 9363 4863. Good luck!

I think you will be fine with either area in terms of transport, just to help you make a decision, Darlinghurst has more edge, it encompasses the main gay bar district (Oxford st) and the red light district in the opposite direction. Paddington is more residential with boutiques, commercial galleries, good pubs and lots of nineteenth-century housing stock.

Just to clarify the main red light district is Kings Cross, the other side of William st.
