Sidney 4 hours

I am passing through Sidney on my way to Asia in the end of October. I have a visa to leave the airport to visit Sidney approximately for 4 to 6 hours.
My plan is to hire a taxi or car service from the airport to drive me around harbour/opera and then have lunch around there. What else I could squeeze in? Any tips on nice lunch spot?

Darling Harbour is close to the Opera House and has a nice international food court. Fast service. There are also several class restaurants in the area as well.

Doyles restaurant at the Rocks is nice. Its right on the harbour and opposite the Opera House. Its a seafood restaurant so if you don't like seafood that would not be the place for you.
You could think of getting the airport mini-bus which would cost you about $7Au and ask them to put you off at the Hyatt at the Rocks because that would take you past a lot of places en route to the Rocks and then get a taxi back to the airport after lunch.

Hi

I woldnt bother with Darling Harbour for food if you have such little time.

Getting a shuttle bus to the Hyatt is a good idea if you want to save $$$. It is about a 20 minute drive from the airport if you have no traffic.

Doyles is a good bet, but if you really want to splurge try Quay retaurant which has the most amazing views of the harbour. There are lots of cafes around the harbour or you could eat in the Park Hyatt or Quay Grand hotels.

The Botanical Gardens asre right next to the Harbour, and theay are just beautiful. You even have time to take a ferry somewhere.

The views from the AMP tower are great but the lunch there is pretty awful (it feels like stepping back to the late 70's there).

You can walk into the CBD from the harbour.

Thank you all so much for the great advice. I just have to go as the time allowes. Liz, I love seafood, but if time is short I might have to grab someting from the food court, which is good to know from John. And Sonia, saving the money in transportation tempts to splurge on the food with the view.
Thank you all, this was great help.
Anu

Learning how to spell Sydney correctly would be a good start.

Sydney has hop on hop off buses like London. They are called the Sydney explorer. They are red and you board them in front of Circular Quay. They show you all the important sights of Sydney. When you've finished get off and walk down toward the Opera House and there is a little bistro called the Sydney Oyster Cove they serve fab seafood and oysters (I recommend Kilpatrick or Kamakazie , as I don't eat them raw.) Good Au. wine and beautiful view of Harbour, bridge and Opera House. Spent many afternoons lingering there. If you have time, take a Harbour cruise. They take an hour and half or so. Have fun and I know you will try to stay a little longer on your return trip or the next one.
