Shereton hotels Fiji
 

Has anyone stayed at any one of the three shereton hotels in Fiji? How is the location and is it easy to get around from there?

We stayed at the main property (Sheraton Fiji). The location is terrific. You are not too far from the airport and you are a short cab ride into town. The three properties are connected via a "Bula bus" which makes the circuit on a regular basis. Dude this was one great vacation for us and I am sure you will love it there. The beach is long and great for walks and of course the Fijian people are very friendly. Get used to hearing "Bula" which is the Fijian version of aloha. If you partake in a cold brew try the locally made Fiji bitter. Just wish we could get it here in the states. Best of luck, Larry :-)

PS. do try some other local beverage. Its called kava. Its made from the root of a pepper plant and its interesting. :S-

We've been to Fiji several times & like the Sheraton Villas. You can grab some food/nibblies at the supermarket in Nadi town & prepare snacks in you own kitchen. Just be aware Fiji is not known for its culinary delights! The Racket Club is very good though & the restaurant down at the wharf on Denarau island is good for seafood! Fiji imports most of its meat from either Oz or New Zealand so meat is expensive.

They also have a washer/dryer in each villa & a large sitting room. The pool there is lovely too. The beach is dark grey sand but it is good for walks as jw says.

Depending on when you are going , all 3 are currently being majorly renovated. Starting with Sheraton Royal into a Westin. Go to hyperhyper.com.au password- fiji for what's going on. We are booked in for August just for 2 nights before hitting an island, and have stayed before and loved it. Once all the renovations are complete it should be spectacular.

Mike where do you reside? Fiji is easy on the wallet if you are in the states.

I live in southern California area. Plan on going in Late October. Is it easy to take daytrips to some of the other islands or better to stay over for a couple of nights?

There are several other small islands close by per ferry so a day trip can easily be done. We went to one, either Castaway or Treasure Island. I am not sure about overnighters to other islands such as the Yasawas, etc. In Nadi the restaurants we liked were Chefs, a Japanese steak house (forgot the name) and there is a place near the wharf for fish but also have other entrees that was pretty good also. It had outdoor as well as indoor seating.

Can anyone suggest any budget hotels on Castaway or Treasure Island.

Is there a bus from the main airport to the Shereton Fiji hotel or any other form of public transportation?

A cab will not be too costly. Out flight arrived at around 0500 so I am not sure about a bus that early. We had arranged for transport before we went. Bula!

Any good tips on what definately not to miss? Any
advice wii be appreciated.

There's nothing wrong with any of the Sheratons, but you really won't be getting much Fijian experience through them it would be more like Hawaii with a side trip into Nadi. It's a perfectly fine idea to stay there once while you visit the Viti Levu, and get some time in Suva. But Suva is the other end of the island, Denarau is not convenient for that.

I'd plan on one or maybe two days at the Sheraton on landing to catch your breath - it is convenient for that since it's close to the airport. (AFAIK, they have their own bus from the airport) But then get out and travel and see the real Fiji.

As for Fiji Bitter, I wouldn't get caught dead near it. You'd freak if I told you all the things I've heard had appeared in those bottles. And the rats at the brewery ... well, you get the idea. Stick to Fosters and imports. Have some kava if you'd like, most westerners aren't fond of the taste, but feel free to try. Fresh fruit juices of all types are always good on a hot day.

Just got back from Maui and loved it.
Is it that difficult visiting other areas of Fiji? I am using points so my stay at the Shereton is pretty much free.

Sneezy: I really liked Fiji bitter and was surprised at your comment so I did some research. Guess who owns Fiji Bitter? FOSTERS!

Fiji babies (Fiji bitter) is mother's milk! Kava is the most awful mud like tongue numbing stuff I've drunk. Take a look at the guys who overindulge. You cannot miss them. Red eyes & very sleepy! Many Fijians we met avoid the stuff unless it's a special occasion or celebration. Drink the babies! You cannot go wrong!

Like mothers milk? Lyndie you make me laugh. :-). I had kava once. After I had it I tried to stand up and thought I should wait a bit and think about it first. I sure wasn't sleepy either! :S-.

Hi jw-my partner says those Fiji babies "make him feel like making babies" (bit old for that now!)so I say whatever "rocks your boat!"

They put something in that beer over there, I'm darn sure of it! And I don't mean what sneezey thinks! Maybe those little blue pills or something. Or maybe it's the island air or water. Dunno! Have fun!
