Sheraton or Beachcomber Moorea?
 

Which would you recommend? I know the Beachcomber is probably a better hotel, but the Sheraton is better located, right?<BR><BR>Thanks,<BR><BR>Carol

Hi Carol,<BR>I don't know which hotel is considered better. We chose the Sheraton and enjoyed our stay very much. We also stayed in the Intercontinental on Tahiti a few nights and found this hotel to be good as well. The Sheratons location is in a lovely spot with nice clean, clear blue water. From our bungalow we could see the Intercontinental in the distance. The service seems to be very inconsistent from all that I've read on travel boards regarding the Sheraton, however on our recent trip we were fortunate not to have had any problems and found the staff helpful and friendly overall. The Sheraton is much nicer, and newer. The Beachcomber looks old, and the bungalows cannot even compare to the Sheraton's. The Sheraton's location is much prettier too.<BR><BR>However, the Sheraton has a problem with overbooking, so I would give you a big caveat! Call the manager in advance and discuss this with him.

BTW, all their bungalows have been recently renovated and are on par with the sheraton.

We went to the Sheraton Moorea in July of 2001 for our honeymoon and I highly recommend it. It is all about the room though - definately stay in an overwater bungalow as we did. The bungalow had a great deck off the back that went directly into the lagoon - snorkeling equipment was provided right in your closet -so no need to go to the front desk to get/obtain. At night we sat on the floor by the glass portion of hte floor and watched the beautiful swim under our bungalow. The food and the service were not the absolute best I've seen but were totally acceptable - besides the bugalow was so great we ordered room service several times whihc was always delivered ontime and hot. We went by the Beachcomber for a drink and there was no comparison to the Sheraton!!!!

I just returned from my honeymoon and we stayed in a garden bungalow at the Sheraton. We did not like this hotel. The room was fine, spacious, but the front desk and concierge service was awful. They indeed have overbooked almost everything and try to rush you in and out of the hotel. The food in the main restaurant was terrible -- do not even bother. If you are looking for an overwater, however, the Sheraton's were deeper than the Beachcomber. The Beachcombers are partly on land. Have you thought about the Sofitel? It is supposed to be on the best lagoon even though it is close to the airport. We drove past and it looked like the overwaters are deep there too.

Hi lb:<BR><BR>We did think about the Sofitel, but it will be in renovations next January, so we're leaning towards the Beachcomber at this point. We are staying in the Sofitel Motu in Bora Bora after Moorea...

By looking at the pictures and reading reviews, the hotel cannot compare to the Sheraton. I chose the Sheraton for this reason, but also thought about the Sofitel as well. That happyvacations site is pretty cool, click on the place, then down to the island, then to the specific resort. Pictures of just about everything. Also, the Beachcomber is on a bay where the water is not that spectacular, unlike the Sheraton. Hope this helps?

Would not suggest that you stay at the Sofitel on Moorea as we were told by a lot of locals on the island that the hotel is not in good condition at the present time. The planned renovations are definitely necessary. The water there is some of the bluest on the island but I would still stick with the Sheraton as it is beautiful and has a great location. Hopefully the Sheraton will address and rectify some of their operational problems that some guests have been experiencing.
