Scuba Diving

Hi we are planning to go scuba diving North of Auckland in February. Just wondering where best place to go is and which company does the best job as we are not certified. Thanks!

I suggest you look into Poor Knights. Be prepared for some cold water though.

Thanks, do the wet suits not help? I thought the water would be warm around that time of year?

I guess it depends on what you consider warm - average water temps between Jan-April are 20-23 c, while between May-Sept they're in the 15-16c range.

My spouse is a diver and he still talks about how cold he got diving the Poor Knights (in May).

The dive company no doubt supplies cold water wetsuits though. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Thanks, has anyone used or have any reports on Dive Tutukaka for diving at Poor Knights Island?

You might try over on TripAdvisor Deob. Their NZ board is a bit more active than Fodor's and they have a lot of local posters. Some of the scuba dive forums might have reviews too.

Good luck.
