Safety in Alice Springs

I've read some reports that it's not very safe to walk around the town area at night. Is it true? Will it be best to stay in your motel when it starts to get dark? Thanks.

Hi Hsu,

Absolutely do not walk around Alice after dark. It is far safer to plan your night ahead of time and take a hire car to your destination. I cannot stress enough the need to be ever vigilant whilst in Alice. Above all else do not walk down Todd Mall after dark.

Cheers

On my trip this past Feb. we were even warned about watching out for ourselves in the Todd mall area during the daytime.
We took taxis at night to avoid problems.

Hi Martha - just wondered WHO EXACTLY told you that?

Look, it's not safe to walk down many streets in towns across the planet - especially if they are not well lit. The golden rule is - don't do away from home what you wouldn't do AT HOME.

But I really don't remember the Alice being that threatening. late at night maybe - but after dark, say 7 or 8 o'clock!! why is everyone so uptight about it. Could we have details please?

I don't know whatanyone is talking about. We walked from the todd mall to our hotel during the middle of the day. our hotel was across a little bridge. It was called the alice springs resort and I was not afraid at all. Not sure about at night but we didn't walk around at night but daytime no problem. Even got cash from and atm at the todd mall during the day and had no problem
