Rockhampton ....what to do??
Hi will be staying in Rockhampton for 2 nights in Feb as part of stopover - will have one full day free, any suggestions of what to do? Also what is the nightlife like? Will be staying at the Rockhampton plaza is this hotel o.k? Any other suggestions.. of more interesting accomodation ( B&B's etc)

Rocky is not the sort of place you would want to spend any time. If you have a car then go out to Mt Morgan which is an old Gold mining town which has hardly changed in 100 years. Alternatively get to the beach and take a boat to one of the islands. Rockhampton is about as boring as you can get unless you are into cows and it will be as hot as a...... in February.

Ummm - I wouldn't go to Rocky for the nightlife. As Liz says, it will be as hot as in February - its main claim to fame is that its the beef capital of Queensland. Great Keppel Island is nearby, but you'd need to overnight there to catch the nightlife. Not aware of any B&B's in town - there is one 20km NE - Brae Bothy B&B - if you do a search for Queensland B&B Association you'll find it.

Stay at Yeppoon..its not that far off the highway.

Gt Keppel Island is lovely (gorgeous beaches, nice walks) much underrated and if you started early you could visit for a day.
Nightlife - I don't think so! You could just see it as an opportunity to check out a middle sized Aussie town - there are some lovely old buildings and I liked the Botanic Gdns very much. No idea about hotels - only ever stayed at the YHA. |
Hi Carty,
Sorry to say your question is probabably asked by most of the Rocky population. It is not known as a tourist town and well LizF pretty much sums it up. Cheers Paul_S |
