Car rental in New Zealand

We will travel north and south island in November. We will need to rent a car when we land in Auckland. Any suggestions? Also wondering if there are car rentals available when you get off the Ferry from Wellington across to the South Island. Our daughter will have a car in Wellington, where she lives, so we could turn it in and get another after crossing.

And yes, there are car rental agencies in Wellington and at the Picton ferry terminal.

Snap Rentals have a depot next to Auckland airport. We used them and they offered decent cars which were really well priced. www.snaprentals.co.nz

Dont think they had a depot in Wellington and Picton though.

We used Budget Car Rental on our driving trip through NZ. We picked up a car in Auckland & turned it in at the airport in Wellington. Picked up another one upon arrival in Nelson & turned it in in Christchurch before flying to Queenstown were we picked up a third car. Everything was pre-arranged Budget and worked out to be very easy.

Finding a rental from Wellington shouldn't be a lot of trouble. There are a lot of suggestions already given above but you might also want to try Hertz.

Also, if you want to compare prices you can go to sites like
http://webcarhire.co.nz/ or http://www.vroomvroomvroom.co.nz/

And also, you're on the right track by choosing to hire another car when you get off the ferry. Some car rentals allow you to take the same vehicle across the ferry but add on a huge price on the bill. So don't get swayed away when you're actually making the hire.

We rented from Avis in Auckland, left it in Wellington and then picked up a new car in Picton at the ferry terminal with a return to the Christchurch airport. Easy and no problems!
