Rental Car???

We are planning to rent a car in Sydney and then travel south and take in Kangaroo Island. One of the rental agencies (Bugest, I believe_ does not cover cars going on the ferry. Does anyone know of a rental agency that does allow this? Thank you.
I did not want to take the time checking with each one.

I can't answer the rental car question... but how long are you allowing for this trip?

It'd be a 4-5 day drive to reach Kangaroo Island comfortably from Sydney. If you don't have this time and more - then consider flying to Adelaide and then on to KI - if you really want to go there. There are car rental places on KI - or you can do a tour.

We are planning a two week vacation and just concentrating on the Southern portion of Australia mainly doing nature drives and not so much the cities. We really want to do KI however, I would like to take the ferry and tour the island by car staying at least three days.
Thank you.

Carole, we found two days on KI plenty, but we're a bit blase about native wildlife. I will say that we might have formed a more positive impression had we used a guided tour.

Driving time from Sydney depends on whether you plan to spend time in Melbourne en route.

I'd recommend going via Melbourne and the Great Ocean Road - the inland routes SYD-ADL are mostly pretty tedious going, although driving via Echuca and Swan Hill on the Murray River breaks the monotony.

The most direct SYD-MEL route, the Hume Highway, isn't all that exciting either. Time permitting it's better to take a route on, or at least closer to, the coast. Depends how much time you plan to spend in SYD, MEL, ADL and KI. You'll find two weeks will go fast.

Sorry can't help with the car rental/ferry question but if you like nature and wildlife a great place to visit is the Grampians in Victoria. If you plan to drive from Sydney to Adelaide you can easily detour to Halls Gap, the little town in the valley where most people stay. The Visitors Centre is a good place to start, they can tell you where and when to walk with your best chance of seeing wildlife.

Thank you for your suggestion. We will take a look at doing that since it appears that none of the rental companies will allow you take the car over on the ferry.
