Recommendation for Abel Tasman NP half day tour?
Can any of you recommend a half day tour in Abel Tasman NP? both that drop you off in one location for a short scenic hike and then pick you up. And for one that just takes you from place to place and stops for a few minutes at each- without us having to hike. thanks

In my experience water taxis in Abel Tasman provide one way drop offs, drop you off at your chosen spot for a hike with a pre-arranged pick up later, combine water taxi/hike/kayak trips or allow you to stay on the boat during their normal drop offs, without going onshore.
Because you don't want to walk much, you could arrange a water taxi to a given location, then arrange a pickup when they return to base, but you'll need to discuss this with the individual operators. They're subject to schedules of course, but they could let you know the options. Will you have a car? One year we booked a water taxi from Totaranui to Awaroa Lodge and back. We drove to Totaranui, boarded the boat for the five minute journey, took a 90 minute walk, had lunch at the lodge, and then took the water taxi back to Totaranui. There are quite a few options. We've probably used every operator at one time or another and I don't have a clear preference. Just choose the one with the best options for your particular interests. Here is a link to our blog entry of a day in Abel Tasman - https://accidentalnomads.com/2015/08...national-park/
We started from Kaiteriteri with Abel Tasman Sea Shuttle. The option we took involved a cruise up the cost for maybe 90 mins or so. They dropped us off at Medlands Beach and we hiked back to Anchorage Bay where we were picked up by the boat. The hike took around 4 hours. Others were dropped off at other spots for shorter hikes/canoe trips. I think you could probably adjust your itinerary to suit your needs. Also camped at Totanarui and did some shorter hikes from there but that is a long old drive to get there just for half a day. Unless of course, you happen to be heading up to the Golden Bay/Farewell Spit areas ( one of my favourite parts of the SI). |
thank you I'll check it out. we are planning on having a car for most of the trip.
