Queenstown vs Bend, OR similar ?
Trying to get a feel for Queenstown in August.
Could it be compared to Bend, Oregon in late March ? The weather is mild, not much snow on the lower elevation, but good ski to be had at top Mt Bachelor, can be outdoors comfortably ? |
As someone who has skied Bachelor and Treble Cone, I think that I can take a stab at this. I would think that Queenstown in August is more like Bend in early March; i.e. not quite spring skiing time yet. I should think that even lower-elevation conditions will still be good.

Thank you ALF.
So it sounds like Queenstown in August can still be pretty wintery. Have you skiied other areas in North America ? Would any other area compare to Queenstown ? Whistler,Colorado, or Salt Lake City ? |
I would equate Queenstown weather with Washington Cascades weather, perhaps like Crystal Mtn or Mt. Baker; so August at Treble Cone would be like February at Crystal Mtn.

Hi - I live very close to Mt. Baker (45 minutes drive) and as of today there is approximately 200" packed base. We had a large amount of snow this year and there is still lots of activity. The record snowfall is 1140" with the average being 750" a year. Thought you might be interested.

Thanks- have not been to either Mt. Baker or Crystal.
I guess what I am trying to figure out is whether the surrounding areas are free of snow, and snow on mountain only ? |
By August, most of the snow at low elevations should be gone. You might get some snowfall, but it will rarely stick or stay around for long.
