Queenstown Accomodation

I'll be travelling to Queenstown for a few days at the end of July. Two family members and I are looking for accomodation and we're a little overwhelmed with our options.

Can anyone recommend a place for $150-180NZD a night that has a kitchenette/kitchen? We're considering Garden Court Suites & Apartments on Frankton, but there's not much info in terms of reviews. We'd like to be fairly close, but we also don't mind walking a relatively short distance.

Also, are you able to visit and hike Fox Glacier or Franz Josef Glacier in July? Is it a practical day trip from Queenstown?

I'd appreciate any advice or tips you could provide, thank you in advance.

Personally, I'd stay in Queenstown itself rather than Frankton, but that's just me.

I have stayed at:
Blue Peaks Lodge which is not super fancy (I think they have another line called Blue Peaks apartments which are a bit newer and more luxurious) but had a kitchen all utensils and a short 5-10minute walk and you are in the heart of Queenstown (we had a 2xbedroom apartment).

Scenic Circle A-line which is very close to Blue Peaks. I don't think they have full kitchens, but do recall tea coffee making and a little fridge.

Heritage Queenstown which is very nice, but a bit further out (they do have a shuttle though). I don't think it had a kitchen, but you might like to check that.

I had friends that stayed at the Scenic Circle Aurum, which they said was very nice (again, same area as Blue Peaks and A-line).

I would recommend that you have dinner one night at the Cow Pizza place, in the winter it's great - open fire, small bar, yummy pizza, it's really cool.

Sorry can't help with the Glacier side of your question.

Hi Travellator

I've just returned from NZ (still recovering from the jet lag as I type!). Yes you are able to hike on the glaciers in July (they run everyday except Xmas day). They even operate in poor weather, although they won't do the helihikes if visibility is poor. I would say that it isn't a practical day trip from Queenstown. There is so much to see on the way from Q'town up to the West Coast you will need to stop to take photos/go for short walks. We actually stopped over in Wanaka and drove to Fox which was probably long enough. The glacier hikes themselves last approx 4hrs. So to do the the return journey in one day is a bit ambitious.

Hope this helps!

We stayed at The Point, which was on Frankton. We loved it. If you have a car, it is not far to drive into town. It is also a good walk. ((#))

My family stayed at The Lodges in Queentown a few years ago. A full kitchen. It is located just across the street from the Lake and had a balcony overlooking the lake. Plus an easy walk into downtown Queenstown. It was very nice...The have a web page.

To follow up with Jed and MJTOO -- could you please tell me what the full names are for the Point and the Lodge?

Thanks again.

The Lodges are actually under Stella Resorts. But the second web has more pictures.

We stayed at the Blue Peaks Lodge (in the newer condos across the street from the check-in office). It was perfect - nice accomodation, beautiful view from the balcony, and a quick walk to the downtown area. Would stay there again with no hesitation.
