Queen's Birthday

We'll be in Austraila on 12 Jun 2006, the Queen's Birthday according to the holiday calendar I found. How is this day celebrated in Oz? Do most people have the day off from work? Are businesses, tour operators closed??

Tim, there are no particular celebrations of the event to my knowledge. However most businesses and some shops will be closed ( not sure about tour operators).

Thinking about this, I would be extremely surprised if the Tourist organisations are not open as this is a major long weekend with people wanting to do trips.

Spot on Peter, its a busy day for tour operators and restaurants here in Far North Qld and elsewhere I would imagine.

What part of Aust are you visiting during the Queens birthday? The real tourist parts will be all open - and even major shopping centres etc.
