Qantas Online Check-in ... print your own boarding pass!

Qantas have recently launched an Online Check-in service, where 24 hours before departure and from the comfort of your computer chair, you can check yourself in for the flight, decide on your seat allocation and then print out your own boarding pass. Oh my, the wonders of technology. Bit scary, almost.

Currently this seems to be offered to FF members only, but no doubt if successful will extend to all passengers. Imagine starting a trip without having to stand that agonising time queueing at the check-in counter – the bind moggles

Here’s the link http://www.qantas.com.au/info/checkindemo

I received an email from Qantas with an added incentive to use this ‘self’-service with a bonus of 500 FF points and the chance to win one of 150 Lenovo notebook computers if Online Check-in is utilized before 30Apr07.

I’m going for it – has anyone here used Online Check-in?

I can already envision the printer karking it just when it’s time to print out the boarding pass ... travel gods like to chuck a spanner occasionally.

Yes furrytiles I have done webcheck in with Virginblue. Definitely easier than queueing at the airport. Is the Qantas checkin you refer to for Domestic or International flights?

Hi FurryTiles,
Yes, I use the QF one all the time & it's a doddle. Virgin's good too. You can change your seat too, if you don't like the auto allocated one. No ... you can't shift to the pointy end on a $49 to Darwin (LOL).

They also have a Bag Drop if you're checking luggage in, which is a bit quicker than the normal check-in procedure.

Even if your printer does kark it, take a note of the seat number & just book in normally. That way, at least you might avoid the middle of the last row when you're racing to beat the "flight closed" deadline at the airport.
The QF on-line check-in is domestic only.

Hi stormbird and bokhara,

Thanks for your reassurances! Much appreciated.

Will be attempting the Online Check-in tomorrow for our 2 connecting flights on Saturday - if unsuccessful, then we can go back to 'manual'

(If I win one of those Lenovo notebook computers, I'll be throwing an online party

I've used both the Qantas and Virgin online check-in and they're both terrific. As I usually just travel with carry-on, it saves a huge amount of time as I can just go straight through to the gate. I wasn't aware that it was only for FF members - i think anyone can use it if they've got a reservation number (but I may be wong).

Mary, think you're probably right - it's not restricted to FF members only.

That said, armed with my Qantas booking reference number, the printer primed, DH at my shoulder to pick his favourite seats (row 4) ... foiled

On clicking the Online Check-in button on our detailed flight itinerary, we were informed ... "Internet check-in is only available for domestic e-ticket bookings"
which ours is not.

Back to the queue

Jackie
