Puketi Kauri Forest

We will be staying in Paihia in February, 2020. We would like to do a forest walk in the Puketi Kauri Forest. I have read about the Kerikeri river track, Rainbow Falls and the Puketi Nature Trail. If we are doing this on our own, what is the easiest/cheapest way to get there? We are 4 adults. I realize that the Puketi Kauri Forest is further west from Kerikeri. Is it worth it to do both or just choose one?

I am not sure that you can do forest walks among kauri at the moment. They are being hit by a disease called kauri die back, and a lot of areas have been closed off.
