Port Douglas Accommodations
 

Looking for a 4 or 5 star accommodation in Port Douglas for 3 adults in a excellent location. Staying in the area for 3 nights. Should we stay one night in the Rain Forest or just do a day trip?

Hi Sandy<BR><BR>We were in Port Douglas last year and stayed at the Sheraton Mirage for 3nights for the second time.<BR><BR>You can easily do daytrips from there to the great barrier reef or tto the rain forest.<BR><BR>I am sure you can get a package deal at Mirage and be sure it includes breaksfast<BR><BR>Have fun<BR><BR>bill

Hi there, the best accomodation in town is Chez Willow. They are luxury Villas rigtht near the beach and town. Have a look at their web site- www.houseofwillow.com.au<BR>The villas are brand new, the cost is $495 per night, much better value than the Sheraton. the hosts are excellent and have a great eye for detail and are also locals. The villas are filled with amazing sculptures from local artists.<BR>I would highly recommend them.

Jeeze!!!!! $495 per night. Try looking up www.wotif and see what you can get for your money. I wouldn't care what kind of art there was in the place - nothing, absolutely nothing is worth $495 per night, not unless it included all meals, entertainment, reef trips, helicopter tours, souvenirs, and wine

Wow Caro, that place is pretty luxe! Your own private pool??? So that's how the other half lives...very nice!<BR><BR>Liz, I looked at the website out of curiosity, and I think it could be a decent deal. The $495 is for a 3 bedroom 3 bath place that could easily fit six (3000 sq feet!). That could average out nicely for 3 adults, especially if they're coming from a country where they could take advantage of the exchange rate. <BR><BR>Some people don't mind paying for luxury, after all. :) (I, however, still get sticker shock every time I go to Boston and have to pay $300 a night for a hotel room...even though it's company money!)<BR><BR>Sorry I can't help you personally Sandy with a recommendation...I looked for mostly 2-3 star places. I do suggest you stay close to town...it will give you more flexibility for your evening options. <BR><BR>If you only have 3 nights, my advice is to stay in P.D. and take a day trip (unless you want to try Silky Oaks, which is a lovely property). It er, rains in the rainforest! :) There were days where P.D. had nice weather and the rainforest did not.<BR><BR>Enjoy!

Actually- when you have three couples staying there it works out to $85 per person per night. This rate is actually cheaper than the Sheratons rate for their deluxe villas.<BR>Each room has king size bed and spa ensuite and egyptian cotton sheets.<BR>I would be happy paying that sort of money if I wanted the best quality available. I had a look through the place when they opened and I had never seen anything like it. <BR>Value is all relative I think.

My husband and our two (older) children just returned from Australia. We spent two nights in Port Douglas at The Boathouse. We loved it! It's not right on the beach but it's a quick 5 minute walk. We had a three bedroom unit, but we had tons of room and could have taken friends! The rooms are all furnished with nautical teak furniture, cool lights, stainless steel kitchen, there was even a washer/dryer! It was very chic, clean and extremely comfy and roomy....and the price was better than the mirage. They have a web site....hope this helps!

SILKY OAKS - is fab fab fab. Stayed there for our honeymoon at the beginning of December and it was the best part of the trip (which is saying something). We had a car and it takes 20mins to get in to Port Douglas. Port Douglas in small and quaint - nice harbour, good restaurants, not much else. Don't miss the Peter Lik gallery though, although it is dangeous to go in with your wallet! Lisa
