Port Douglas

Does anyone have any hotel/lodging recommendations for under US$100 in Port Douglas?

My wife and I stayed at the Tropical Reef Apartments in June. It is not a luxury hotel, but a nice, spacious apartment. Most importantly (depending on what you want to do) it is walking distance to the Main Street. Too, it has a full kitchen so we were able to eat some meals in to save some money. It cost us about $105 Australian per night. I know they have a web site, i just dont know it. If you have trouble finding it, let me know. When you go, make sure you go to "Going Bananas".

-Steven
We went to Port Douglas in December so it was very inexpensive to stay at one of the nicest places. We stayed at the Radison Tree Tops resort. WOW!!! IT WAS GREAT!

My wife and I spent five nights at the Tropical Reef Apartment. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bath unit with a large roof top terrace and a washer/dryer. We were very pleased with the location and thought it was a great value. It is not fancy but very clean and allowed us to save money while having a lot of room.

If you are on a honeymoon....or just have to have the amenities of a resort( room service, daily maid service, etc)..then I wouldn't stay at an apartment complex..but we spend most of our time outdoors and it worked out well for us.

Their web site is...
http://www.tropicalreef.com.au/

PS. You will love Port Douglas...it is a great little beach town.

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. I checked Tropical Reef and it is already full. Radisson Treetop is little more than my budget. Do you know anything about Radisson Reef Resort? Or other recommendations?
Thanks.

Kelly, Each time we go to PD we stay at Marina Terraces, which are well appointed, self catering apartments that are centrally located. A one bedroom apartment for 2 or 3 people is from US$65 per night depending on the season. You can check them out on the following URL which you can cut and paste -
http://www.great-barrier-reef.com/ma...ces/index.html - take into account that the prices quoted are in Oz dollars. Peg.

I just stayed at Radisson Reef Aug 8.
I was not overly impressed. We arrived at 1:00 and were told we could not get into our room until check in which was 3:00. Which I fully understand. So we figured we would order lunch and then our room would be ready and then we could explore Port Douglas. We didn't get into our room til about 6:00. If we were told this originally we would have just went to town. Meanwhile we booked our tours at the tour desk. The lady at the desk was
not very helpful and rushed us through all of our decisions and questions. The next day when arriving to scuba dive we were told we had no reservations. The next day we went to Kuranda and several people from our resort had the same problems there. The problem was reservations were booked under wrong names and took awhile to straighten out. The rooms are small with no storage space. The furniture is falling apart and the resort is very spread out which is fine if you don't mind walking. I don't mind walking but I heard some elderly people complaining about it.
The food and bar service were not good either. Gosh it sound like I'm whining-- usually I am a happy person.
Everywhere else we stayed in Australia and N.Z. were excellent. This was just not up to Radisson standards.

You might check out www.oztravel.com.au.
We stayed several years ago at the Whispering Palms which altho' not in town was right on the beach. At that time the bus service to town was excellent. As far as the accommodations, they were very nice apartment-style units and under $l00 U.S. at that time.
