Hi Jun,

I am a travel agent who has visited Sydney more than once. This past May we stayed at the Regent. It was wonderful. But you must get the Opera House view. It is worth every penny. I awoke at 4am to find my husband in front of the window staring out and taking yet some more pictures of that magnificent view. On previous trips I have stayed at the ANA and Quay West. They all offer large rooms and magnificent views. The view is everything. Quay West offers an apartment and if its just 2 of you, you may not need the extra room or the extra price.

Sometimes we get specials at these hotels and we also offer consolidator fares to Australia. If you would like some quotes, send me your information.

One more questions, I hope you are planning to visit more than just Sydney.

Francine
TravelScape

Jun:
If you're about, I'd be curious to hear where you ended up in Sydney. We're going through the same trying to decide and you sounded as if you had the same wants as we do.

We recently returned from OZ and stayed at the Quay West for 5 nights. It was wonderful! We had a one BR Harbour view and it was about 90 Sq. Meters. We were on the 19th floor and had balconies off of the Living Room and the Bed Room. The rooms for guests only go to the 23 floor with thr 24th being the Pool (Fabulous!) and exercise area. Above the 24th floor seems to be private residences. There is a full kitchen to prepare meals if you like, and this can offset the cost of the room since you would not have to dine out that much if you choose.

In speaking with Stuart the concierge and a few other people, they have all said that the ANA will be closing at the end of the year, and will be converted to apartments which are to be sold. I do not know the exact closing date, but I am sure that someone on this board might know.

After much research we stayed at the Quay West the last week of February and the hotel was top notch. It was a very special anniversary for us and we booked via the internet and Mirvac (the parent company). Our 1 bedroom apartment was on the 23rd floor and I think I'll remember it for years to come. On our way back to the states we stayed over again in Sydney and stayed at the Southern Cross up by Darling Harbor (on Gouldburn). It is a very nice hotel, friendly staff, comfortable, everything I wanted in a hotel but it was NOT the Quay West. The view and the convenience of Circular Quay and The Rocks added a lot to the Quay West. As far as the ANA, the hotel promotes Japanese patronage and that really says it all.

has anyone ever stayed at the Radisson Plaza Hotel in Sydney? It looks quite nice from pictures and website information I've read. It seems to be in a centralized location/within walking distance of everything....just wondering what people who've actually been there think about it?!?! Specials are running for it on most discounted hotel websites and I'm wondering if it really is a deal to stay there....

Just want to mention that we stayed at the Park Hyatt recently and it was WONDEFUL. Room on the 2nd or 3rd floor facing the Quay and the Opera house...the Bounty was right in front our patio. The marble bathroom was absolute luxury.
We stayed for 150 US per night... the key is too use your shopping skills. We asked for promotions, mentioned it was our 20th wedding anniversary and used Hyattt points. We stayed a week and it was worth every penny to stay on the water in the middle of most of the attractions at the Rocks.

Be sure to take the Rocks historical walking tour, attend the Rocks "street market" where they have beautiful hand painted mini water color pictures in frames that are wonderful mementos, take the ferry to the zoo, the Opera House tour and use your tour ticket for a same day 1/2 off ticket for an opera/recital that night. The restraunts on the Quay are wonderful and so are the ferry side deli s for lunch The hotel had a marvelous breakfast buffett for a reasonable price and at night had a wonderful coffee and desert buffett. I think the Park Hyatt is one of the best hotels I've stayed in as a seasoned world traveler..it certainly was exceptional for location, service and scenery.

We stayed in the Quay West in April and loved it. I was in Sydney and called and asked for their best rate - there was a special package that included breakfast for 2 and was, I think, 265$A. The suites have a washer and dryer with packets of laundry powder. If you go, check out the pool on the top floor - it has an amazing Roman-bath decor and a wonderful view of the city.
