Please help with Port Douglas accomodations

This is for 5 nights for our October honeymoon. The places we are considering are Thala Beach Resort, Peppers Beach Club and Sea Temple Resort (Port Douglas). We will not have a car for our stay. We want to see the major things (reef, rainforest, etc)

This is one of the most popular posts - do a search on here & you'll see lots of recent recommendations & feedback for Port Douglas & Cairns.

Thala Beach Resort is stuck in the middle of nowhere. Sure, it's lovely, but it is remote with nothing around it for miles.

The Sea Temple is best from the places you mention. You can walk everywhere and a car is not needed.

A great place, if you can get in, is Hibiscus Gardens, which is even more central and sort of Balinese in style.

Thala Gardens, by all means, if you only want to stay in bed *lol*. But if you want to walk to restaurants, markets, shops and beaches etc, I'd strongly recommend that you cut it off the list.

If money is no object, you could try http://www.portdouglasgetaways.com.au/ but you will be paying about $450-$475 a night. Their Sand Street properties are both excellent (I have stayed there). Cassowary Villas are also great, as are their Garrick Street places (also stayed there - more sunlight hours on the pool than Sand Street).

They have a number of properties in Solander Street, but steer clear of them - too far away from the action.

This place is also good (there are two..but the cottage is nice): http://www.portdouglascottage.com/index.html

You can often work a reduced rate with Port Douglas Getaways.

Hi Again Bisgirl!

As Mitch said, Thala is remote - if you have a car, go for it -- beautiful resort (this is where kate Hudson was staying when I was there in December);
I've stayed at Sea Temple, and it has the MOST amazing pool, and to go for an evening swim - very romantic.

Mitch also mentioned Hibiscus Gardens which is centrally located, as he mentioned.

Hope this is helpful!

We even have Australian celebs at Thala; this is where Natalie Imbruglia and Daniel Johns (Silverchair) were married and had their honeymoon. Can't beat it for scenery; its about 15 min drive into Port Douglas and reef and rainforest trips pick up there.
