places to stay in Bali ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
 

i am planning a 2.5 week trip to Bali in late september. i want to travel around the entire island, with small excursions inland. i am primarily looking for midrange prices, but i would like to spoil myself for a night or two in a more expensive place. thanks for any info you can give me!! <BR>-Ty

<BR>Ty, we recently vivited Bali a few months ago. We only spent a few days there for a short vacation. (Our home is in Thailand) Our first night was spent in Denpasar (the Bali Hotel) It was O.K.--nothing to write home about and inexpensive. We then traveled upward to Ubud. Inland. Nice! Peaceful. We stayed at a place called the Bali Spirit Hotel. We went to Bali with no hotel reservations. When we reached our destinations, the tourist rate was not high. At the Bali Spirit Hotel, we were able to bargain our room from aver $100 dollars a night down to about $60 with breakfast for my husband and I. And the rooms were really nice. <BR>I hear The Chedi at Ubud is good for spoiling purposes - in fact we are going there mid-September, so we might see you! I am looking for mid-priced places too at that time - $60 sounds rather high going on what I've read in The Lonely Planet guide - especially in view of the economic crisis in Indonesia... I'll be glad to hear of other comments

<BR>We are a family of five, two boys aged fourteen and ten, one of two and a half. We plan to go to Bali in the school holidays. We plan to indulge ourselves fora few days then find a meditative and authentic local (rather than international) type place to stay. Lots of suggestions for first - none for second! Would really appreciate any suggestions!

My husband and I were in Bali last August and also stayed at the Bali Hyatt in Denpasar. We y liked it. It's on a street with a lot of other strip of hotels, shops, restaurants so you're not stuck at the hotel. The beach wasn't so great but you can take a cab over which has big waves and lots of people surfing. Good people watching. Ubud is not near the beach, it's more central to the island and is good if you are interested in local craftsmen at work. Both of these places are preetty touristy. If you are into scuba diving, there are some good places, but watch out for the current. Good Luck
