place to stay in cairns
 

My brother and I are going to be in Cairns in about 10 days and just looking for any recommendations on places to stay. I've also seen some recommendations to stay at Port Douglas. My brother and I are both in our late 20s and not looking to party all night but would like something to do before turning in for the night so wasn't sure if Cairns had more to do at night than Port Douglas. Thanks for the help.

Cairns has plenty of night life; Port Douglas has little. You should find what you're looking for on www.cairns.com.au

thanks. i'm looking at staying at the cairns oasis resort or the shrangi-la hotel. the shrangi-la is definitely more expensive but does anyone have advice on if its worth the extra money for the location or any other recommendations on places to stay.

Shangri-la has been fairly recently renovated and it is on waterfront overlooking harbour, right where boats leave for reef. Oasis is a couple of blocks north and one street back from waterfront but still easily accessible - I just happened to notice some good rates for Shangri-la on www.wotif.com
